The GIOS platform is an interactive online maths learning platform that helps children understand and love the subject and helps teachers to implement blended learning in their classes.
1. Begin by introducing the platform and its demo lesson.
Explain that the GIOS platform can be used on a computer, tablet or smartphone. The platform contains online maths courses that provide theory and a variety of tasks for each topic. Take a free lesson with your students on the platform.
2. Tell parents more about the benefits of blended learning.
3. Send a proposal about the possibility of implementing blended learning in maths using the GIOS platform to the class parents’ group.
4. Discuss the proposal with parents in a group chat or at a parent-teacher meeting.
Explain to parents how everyone involved in the learning process will benefit.
It will be easier for the teacher to get students interested in maths and intensify the learning process.
Students will see that gadgets can be used not only for fun but also for studying. They will gain experience with online courses in general and video content in particular. They will also increase their level of self-control, self-esteem, and self-analysis, which are important skills for the 21st century.
Parents will be able to modernise their children’s maths learning and save money. It is important to draw parents’ attention that blended learning makes some adjustments to the learning process. That is, students will first try to master some of the material on their own. This will stimulate the development of each student’s independence.
Important! Parents should not interfere in this process and help to understand the new material. The student will not be left alone with the gadget. The teacher will work through this material in the lesson, so the student will be able to get answers to all their questions. It is important to note to parents that their children will most likely have to change professions several times throughout their lives. And experience with online courses will make it much easier for them to acquire new knowledge in the future.
How to access the GIOS platform?
1. Get in touch with the platform coordinator.
If parents support your initiative, contact the platform coordinator, who will help you organise the easiest way to connect you and your students to the platform.
2. Sign up your students to the platform.
It is advisable to bring all students of the class to the platform centrally. You should inform your students the day before that you will be distributing access codes to the platform and that each student should create an email or have access (remember the email and password) to an existing one. Before entering the access code (it allows the teacher to connect with students on the platform), the student must register on the platform.
How to do this? Read the article.
IMPORTANT! Students must remember the email they used when registering and the password.
3. Give each student one access code.
It is best if you create a table where each student is assigned an access code. This will help to avoid confusion with codes later on.
4. Make sure that students have materials in their personal accounts.
In order for a student to have a particular online course in their personal account and for you to track their work on the platform, each student must enter an access code.
After entering the code, students will see cards with learning material. And in your teacher’s cabinet, this student will appear in the list of students.
5. Introduce students to the basics of your work on the platform.
Set the rules. Do you allow students to complete lessons in advance? Will you grade work on the platform? Will you set a deadline for certain types of work?
To familiarise students with the platform’s interface, offer to watch the video or explain it yourself.
